Skylight Repair in Bergen County, NJ — Leak, Flashing, and Hardware Specialists

Daylight Design repairs skylights for homeowners across Bergen County, NJ. Most skylight problems people call "the skylight is leaking" turn out to be flashing failure, sealant degradation, or condensation — not a defective skylight. We diagnose the actual cause and fix only what needs fixing, often saving the homeowner the cost of a full replacement.

Common repairs we handle: flashing replacement, sealant and gasket renewal, glass replacement, motor and chain replacement on venting units, fogging/condensation between panes, and remote/control programming for VELUX Active units. We work on VELUX, Velux, Fakro, Andersen, and most other brands.

Frequently Asked Questions

My skylight is leaking — is it the skylight itself or the flashing?
In our experience, 80%+ of "skylight leaks" are actually flashing failure — the metal step-flashing around the skylight has corroded, lifted, or was originally installed without ice-and-water shield. The skylight itself is usually fine. We diagnose before recommending any work.
How much does a skylight leak repair cost?
Most skylight leak repairs in Bergen County range from $400 to $900 depending on roof access, complexity, and whether the flashing needs full replacement. We provide a written estimate after the diagnostic visit, before any work begins.
Why is there condensation between the glass panes?
Fogging between the inner and outer panes means the seal between them has failed — moisture is now trapped inside the insulated glass unit. The fix is replacing the glass cassette (most VELUX units allow glass-only replacement without replacing the entire skylight, which keeps cost down to $600-$1,200 per unit).
Can you repair a skylight you didn't install?
Yes. We service all major brands (VELUX, Fakro, Andersen, Wasco, etc.) and any skylight regardless of who installed it. About 60% of our repair calls are for skylights we did not originally install.
Should I repair or replace my old skylight?
If the skylight is under 15 years old and the leak is purely flashing-related, repair is almost always the right call. If the unit is 20+ years old, the seals are degrading anyway, the energy efficiency is poor by modern standards, and replacement with a current VELUX model usually pays for itself in 7-10 years through energy savings. See our skylight replacement page for details.
